Britain’s richest man Jim Ratcliffe hints he might make offer for football club
Britain’s wealthiest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has hinted that he is interested in taking over another football club but refused to comment specifically on Chelsea.
Reports in June suggested that billionaire Ratcliffe, a Chelsea season-ticket holder, had offered £2billion to buy the west London club.
Chelsea’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich rejected the offer but rumours of a potential takeover by the founder of chemicals firm Ineos persist.

Ratcliffe, owner of Petrochemicals firm Ineos, is Britain’s wealthiest man with a fortune estimated at £21bn by this year’s Sunday Times Rich List
Ratcliffe told The Daily Telegraph: ‘There are always things going on at Ineos but I can’t really comment.’
But he added that football was a ‘lifelong passion’ and pointed out that he already owned Swiss club Lausanne-Sport, describing that project as ‘a dipping your toes in the water sort of thing.’
Ratcliffe, 65, added he believed Abramovich was ‘on his way out’ of Chelsea for one reason or another.
He was valued at £21bn by this year’s Sunday Times Rich List – more than double Abramovich’s wealth.
Ratcliffe is the founder and owner of Sir Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup sailing team Ineos Team UK.

Rumours have grown that Roman Abramovich may be preparing to sell Chelsea

Chelsea insist Abramovich is not preparing to sell the club although issues with the Home Office over his UK investor’s visa this year have played a proposed redevelopment of Stamford Bridge into doubt.
Ratcliffe is a Manchester United fan but watches football at Stamford Bridge regularly because it is close to his Chelsea home. He was a guest at the club’s Cobham training ground last season.
Ratcliffe’s company, Ineos, recorded sales of £45bn and employs more than 18,500 people in 22 countries.
Ratcliffe, who grew up in a council house in Failsworth – a small town between Manchester and Oldham – was asked in a recent interview about his education and replied: ‘I just played football, really. That’s all I was interested in.’
